World Health Day 2025: Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures
April 7 | World Health Day 2025 : Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures
This year, the World Health Organization (WHO) campaign calls on the world to turn its attention to maternal and newborn health, with a clear and urgent message:
-
Every 7 seconds, a life is lost due to preventable causes.
-
Around 300,000 women die each year from pregnancy- and childbirth-related complications.
-
Over 2 million babies die in their first month of life, and another 2 million are stillborn.
-
4 out of 5 countries are not on track to meet global targets for reducing these deaths by 2030.
The DOHaD concept (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) highlights that environmental, nutritional, and social conditions during pregnancy and the early years have long-lasting impacts on health throughout life.
At LabioSignal, we study how exposure to toxic compounds (such as pesticides and ethanol), lifestyle factors, and other risks influence metabolic, endocrine, and epigenetic programming, with consequences for the development, fertility, and health of future generations.
